Today the most used subscription based streaming service in the country is Netflix. There was a 10% jump in using video-on-demand services from 2017 and now more than 74% American users are streaming. This cord cutting phenomenon only continues to increase as the company had 183 million paid subscribers across the globe at the end of the first quarter of 2020. Yet there are still many other streaming services out there that are continuing to grow, will this be the end of live television or a fun addition?

As home streaming becomes more popular people have begun cord cutting. Cord cutting is a term used to describe people who are cancelling their live cable or satellite TV and switching to streaming services, such as, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and more. Some of the younger generations have turned into “Cord Nevers” meaning they have never paid for cable and most likely don’t plan on it. It is estimated that in 2020, 44.3 million households will be without a paid TV service.
